A fox - putting me in a frenzy

This morning I awoke at my usual 7am and lay in bed thinking about things on the agenda for today such as - visiting the sales at Braehead Shopping Centre and then meeting Geraldine for lunch to catch up.

Since my flat is on the 4th floor and at the top of the apartment block I don't tend to close my curtains and it is nice at this time of year to see the bright day ahead.   Anyway I usually head to the window to look out over the Clyde estuary and greet whatever weather comes my way.

Today the low clouds of yesterday have lifted and it feels a bit fresher than of late.   My thoughts are interrupted when I spy a fox so rushing for my camera from the next room I return in time to grab this shot of him jumping the wall.   It is a bit blurry but I was so excited and wanted to capture the moment.

This is the same fox I'm sure who has wakened me in the middle of the night with his calling - still don't know if there is a name for the sound a fox makes.   If anyone out there knows??????

  1. It really is a great photo Celia, the blurring adds to it. They are beautiful creatures aren't they ...although my sister in law didn't think so when they dug up her garden, killed the children's rabbits and lived under their shed, apparently making the place stink to high heaven. personally, I love them.... 1. I just feel so happy having seen him. He must have a den somewhere near because there are woods not too far away. He was making a noise again last night but too dark to see anything.

  3. Great shot.
I think they have a large range of calls to convey warning up to calling their offspring. They bark and scream ...those are the only two names I know.

When I lived on the outskirts of London we had many city foxes calling at night ...sometimes just sitting in the middle of a main road.

    1. Hi Angie, Yes; another friend of mine thru facebook said she saw one sitting on her neighbours car - she lives in Luton.

  5. Wow, how lovely to see him first thing and well done you for capturing him.
Foxes make a heck of a racket at night - they lived in the woods at the back of us in Huddersfield - they yap, bark and even scream in a most blood-curdling sort of way. Don't think it's got a specific name. But once you've heard it, you can possibly think of stronger words than 'calling'! Axxx

  6. Hi Annie,
Well he was screaming last night but too dark. I'm hoping to see if there are any cubs however I don't feel up to sitting up all night in case. It will have to be happenstance again.
